I Wrote the Best Birthday Card Ever

I hate writing in greeting cards because the standard stuff feels so cheesy to me and I can't ever think of anything good, odd considering I'm a writer. I usually just tack my name onto the back of whatever my fiance writes. Unless she uses the pronoun "I" and then I have to actually do something different.

This last one was a different one. She bought her aunt a birthday card that had a lined interior like graph paper. At first I was going to plot her birthdate using the quadratic function but my brain started to hurt trying to remember trigonometry. Then I came up with a better idea.

Newest Scott Pilgrim vs the World Trailer Kicks My ass

I love movies that are completely unique and just nail the concept right. Judging by the newest trailer for Scott Pilgrim vs The World, I think this could be one of those.

Special thanks to First Showing for this!

Concept for Distributive Render Community

So I came up with an idea yesterday that I thought was pretty novel. It will most likely never happen but if it does, I get credit and 50% of ownership.

This is along the lines of 'Folding at Home' or 'SETI at Home' where you can have other people process your data for you ie. render your projects. You can upload pieces or frames to a central server that distributes these to users that have open CPU cycles. You would then get the finished product delivered to you, possibly even encrypted.

You would have to have some sort of incentive to get people to donate their CPU time and I came up with a bit torrent like ratio. Time that you donate towards the community gets credited to your account and when you want to have something processed for you, you need to have the credit available to do. Or you have to maintain a certain ratio to be able use people's services.

This would require a lot of work though. You would need a community that is available for people to congregate around and upload their projects and set themselves available for processing. Also, you would need support from the product developers themselves in providing cheap or free render licenses to users.

This is a little pie in the sky and would require a lot of cooperation from a lot of different facets but it could change the small small studios and freelancers work and the way they interact together.

This Weekend I Got Mad at a Road Sign

You know the arrow they paint for turns on the road? Its a curve with the triangle. In the parking lot of the Buena Vista Library in Burbank, there is such a sign. Its a right arrow next to the outdoor book drop. I noticed it over the weekend and it made me mad.

The triangle was off balance. Instead of the middle of the triangle aligned with the middle of the curve, the top edge of the curve aligned with the middle of the triangle. Like this:

That was just a representation too. The actual arrow in question was far more offensive to the eye.

Why does this matter? It doesn't in the greater sense of life but it pissed me off for 5 minutes and I thought you would like to know.

A Recent Discovery I Made About Myself

The other day after the 6th straight listening of Snow Patrol's Chasing Cars, I came to a realization. I just listened to Snow Patrol's Crashing Cars 6 straight times. Then it occurred to me that I do this a lot. When I first heard Lupe Fiasco's I Gotcha, I couldn't stop listening to it. Over and over, looked for other versions, remixes, videos on Youtube. I wondered why I do this with songs I like.

I figured it out but its not pretty. You know how people say that drug addicts are always chasing that first high? Always going and going but never catching it. This is how I take in some music. When I first hear the song, it affects me in such a way that I listen to the song over and over again to try and experience the first time I heard the song.

Makes me very glad I don't do drugs.

And because I Gotcha is such a rad song, you can listen to it below.
